Apple to replace ?fire risk? iPods

Apple is to replace a number of its iPod Nano’s in Japan, at the request of government authorities.

According to Mac World, the Japanese industry ministry had issued a safety warning on the first generation of iPod’s, sold between late 2005 and 2006, and had called on Apple to disclose the full number of overheating reports from global sales of the devices.

As an alternative, Apple agreed to replace the devices, citing issues with faulty batteries sourced from a third party manufacturer that had lead to “very rare cases of overheating.”
