Rumours circulate of an announcement at Mobile World Congress 2010

Windows Mobile 7 in the pipeline?

Microsoft is expected to set a date for the launch of the Windows Mobile 7 operating system, if rumours are to be believed.

According to Digitimes, which cites sources close to Microsoft, the timetable for WM7 will see the beta version made available to partners from September this year, with a full roll-out expected for Q4 2010 or Q1 2011.

Microsoft has allegedly already selected a number of vendor partners to co-develop the software. These include Toshiba, Acer, Samsung and Asus, as well as LG and HTC – both of which are rumoured to be developing WM7-based smartphones.
