Storage seems to be the word of the moment with Dutch vendor Sitecom introducing the latest addition to its Smart Living range, the MD-253 Home Storage Center. The device allows users to backup digital media and files in a central location and share them with others on the network.
ioSafe, meanwhile, launched its ‘disaster proof’ external hard drive. The ioSafe Solo is designed to be resistant to extreme conditions, including temperatures of 1550°F for half an hour or water up to ten feet deep.
In software releases, developer ABBYY unveiled FineReader 10, an optical character recognition package that turns scanned documents and images into Microsoft Word and Excel files or searchable PDFs. According to the vendor, it is up to 99 per cent accurate.
AVG Technologies released two new packages for small businesses – Internet Security Business Edition 9.0 and Anti-Virus Business Edition 9.0. According to AVG, the two products scan systems up to 50 per cent faster than previous versions and use signature-based protection and cloud-based technology to manage threats.
Asus launched the O!Play Air HDP-R3 HD, which streams audio, photo and HD video formats from PCs and other devices. It also has wi-fi support.
Peripherals vendor Trust has two new headsets, the Como and Comfortline, both with an ergonomic, padded design for lengthy gaming or chat sessions. The Como is foldable, while the Comfortline has a sturdy aluminium headband.
Finally, Verbatim revealed the Bluetooth Audio Cube, a speaker which streams music from Bluetooth-enabled devices. The compact and lightweight Audio Cube is battery-powered and lightweight, with a range of up to eight metres.
