Microsoft’s chief financial officer Chris Liddell will be leaving the company at the end of the year, seemingly to look for bigger opportunities elsewhere.
Liddell’s job will be taken over from 1 January by Peter Klein, who is currently CFO of Microsoft’s business division.
According to a statement, Lidell, who has been with Microsoft since 2005, is leaving the firm to look at “a number of opportunities that will expand his career beyond being a CFO”.
Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer praised Liddell’s leadership, describing the finance team as “deep and strong”, with “an excellent record of building value for our shareholders.”
Klein has been with Microsoft since February 2002 and in his current role oversees the business division’s financial strategy, management and reporting. He worked in corporate finance for 13 years and, more recently, spent three years as CFO of Microsoft’s server and tools business.
“Peter brings great finance and operations expertise and a deep understanding of the company, and I am looking forward to a smooth transition that continues our commitment to cost containment and finance excellence,” Ballmer said.
