Firm says the move will position it for expansion

Stone Group consolidates to single facility

The UK’s largest privately owned computer manufacturer is to consolidate both its facilities into a single site.

The Stone Group, which specialises in supplying IT goods to public institutions, will move operations to its new facility in Stafford by May 2010.

The firm did not clarify whether there would be any workforce reductions as part of the consolidation, though a statement sent out from the firm implied there wouldn’t. PCR has contacted the firm to clarify the matter.

[UPDATE] The group has clarified that the consolidation will not result in any workforce reductions.

“The new site will provide Stone Group with an opportunity to improve company systems and overall efficiency,” read a company statement.

“Relocating to new, state of the art premises, demonstrates Stone’s resilience in difficult times,” says Stone Group CEO James Bird.

“We are bucking the trend, driving forward faster and more profitably than any other UK system builder thanks to our strategy and dedicated people.”

“The move is a result of our success, providing us with an opportunity to redesign our internal layout to better suit our company strategy for the future, and with more modern and efficient facilities, will position Stone Group as number one choice system builder to the UKs public sector. Stone is moving forwards with its strategic goals and we all agree we have very exciting times ahead.”
