Legal measures taken following the death of a 16 year-old boy

China bans physical punishment for internet addicts

Chinese authorities have outlawed the practice of using physical punishments to cure internet addiction.

According to Mac World, the clinics are also forbidden from detaining patients against their will.

A number of these clinics has sprung up in the nation, where internet addiction is blamed for poor grades or distance between a teenager and their parents. The clinics are organised like boot-camps and have been best known for brutality.

16 year old Deng Senshan was placed in solitary confinement and beaten so badly that he died within ten hours of being placed inside one of the clinics.

The new legislation advises children to limit their time online, and encourages parents to take a greater interest in what their child is doing.
