Company says it has seen growing demand in Eastern Europe

Asus expects portable PC sales of up to 13 million

Asus expects to ship between 11 and 13 million portable PCs this year, due to an increase in demand across geographical areas including Europe.

According to Reuters, Asus chief executive Jerry Shen told reporters: "We are seeing some demand increase in Europe, especially from eastern Europe."

He added that the company also expects to sell a million of its recently launched ultra-thin laptops this year, due to a predicted "pick-up in demand there from the fourth quarter". Shen said initial problems with the product had been ironed out.

The estimate is only slightly lower than the company’s May sales forecast of 13 million portable computers – an increase of 25 per cent on last year.
