The increasing use of computers at home and at school means that software sales are becoming an increasingly important part of retailers’ year.
Along with the more traditional sale periods of Christmas and Easter, software sales are continuing to see strong growth and despite the current economic environment, many within the channel are not expecting that to change.
"Every child uses a computer at school and the PC is still the most popular learning and revision tool in the home," remarks marketing and PR manager at software publisher Focus Multimedia, Grant Hughes. "Our own range of educational PC software taps into this market by helping parents to improve their children’s learning skills when they are out of school."
He added that it was one area were resellers were unlikely to come into competition from specialist software retailers like Game and Gamestation. "In the past, there have been attempts to bring educational software to games consoles and even handhelds, but we are finding that most parents still prefer their children to learn using a PC."
