Apple approves Spotify iPhone app

Apple has approved a Spotify application that allows users to stream music straight to their iPhones.

The application, which was submitted to the iTunes App Store for approval in July, will be free to use but requires a £9.99 monthly premium Spotify subscription, according to BBC News.

Spotify founder Daniel Ek told the BBC that he thought the app would mean a rise in premium subscriptions.

“We’re scaling up the systems because response has been tremendous even before the app is available,” he said.

As well as streaming music to their phones, the application enables users to temporarily store playlists that can be listened to even when there is no wireless connection.

Spotify has over six million users across Europe, including two million in the UK.
