Acer has announced its intention to diversify in to televisions and e-books with in five years, as it looks to counter slowing PC sales.
Although the company posted a 24 per cent increase in shipments during the last quarter – largely due to sales of low-cost laptops – its sales are expected to drop this year for the first time since 2001, according to the NZ Herald.
Market researcher IDC also expects the PC market to continue to shrink.
“The PC actually is a mature industry,” said Acer’s founder Stan Shih. “PC extending to TV, of course there’s room. Taiwan can leverage their leading technology in digital and overcome this barrier.”
