Senior VP Doug Dennerline reveals the company is looking at offering online productivity software

Cisco sizing up Office

Cisco is considering releasing a web-based rival to Microsoft’s Office suite.

According to Reuters, senior vice president at the company Doug Dennerline said on Tuesday that his company was investigating a service that would allow business customers to create and distribute documents through its WebEx platform.

During an online news conference, he said: "That is an interesting space. We are certainly thinking about that." However, he refused to elaborate on the statement, according to the news agency.

Any service launched by Cisco would come into competition with the likes of Google, OpenOffice, Adobe and of course, Microsoft.
