Intel to move in to embedded systems

Intel is to diversify its portfolio with the buyout of US embedded software developer Wind River Systems.

According to Business Pundit, Wind River develops software for devices such as smartphones, networking equipment, in-car systems and other consumer electronics. The company competes directly with Microsoft CE.

The deal, valued at $884 million, will see Wind River integrated in to Intel’s Software and Services Group, and presents an opportunity for Intel to expand in to embedded and mobile devices – an important growth area for the company.
