UK's largest supermarket forecasts mobile broadband to boom this year

Tesco steps up IT and telecoms offering

Over 30 laptops and netbooks, plus a range of mobile broadband packages from all of the main networks are spearheading a major push by Tesco to expand its market share in the IT channel.

The supermarket has said that it sees mobile broadband as being a major growth area this year, and it wants to be at the centre of the action.

"We believe that mobile broadband is going to really take off in 2009," commented Tesco Mobile and Tesco Telecoms chief executive Lance Batchelor. "We want to help our customers get the very best deals, making it easier than ever to stay connected wherever they are."

A multitude of vendors are involved in the deal, including Dell, HP, Acer, Lenovo, Sony and Toshiba, with the cheapest tariff starting at £25, with a free laptop.

The deals will be available via the Tesco Telecoms website, as well as in its 42 Phone Shops across the country.
