Market research firm's latest report claims revenues will hit ?20bn this year

Verdict: ‘Etail at all time high despite recession’

The number of people shopping online has reached an all-time-high, according to the latest figures from Verdict Research.

The report predicts that online retail in 2009 will increase by 13.3 per cent or £2.4bn to £20.9bn. The market is predicted to reach £31.2bn by 2013, accounting for around ten per cent of total retail spend.

Verdict said etailer’s continued success is dependent on them coming up with clear plans. "The key for individual retailers is to formulate two clear strategies, one for succeeding through the recession and one targeting growth beyond this, as the online channel begins to approach maturity," said senior retail analyst, Malcolm Pinkerton.
