ATI, Nvidia, Sapphire and PNY among companies urging retailers and resellers to push alternatives to full systems

Downturn can boost component sales, claims channel

The economic crisis is opening up new opportunities to push components to consumers, several channel experts have told PCR.

While many retailers and resellers have reported an upswing in demand for repairs, component sales have failed to increase in the same way. But industry giants ATI, Nvidia, Sapphire and PNY have all said that the potential is there.

"In this financial downturn the option for consumers to upgrade rather than buy a new PC has become a lot more appealing," Sapphire’s UK and Nordic sales director Neil Spicer told PCR.

"Upgrading with a graphics card and compatible memory is a cheaper solution to purchasing new systems," added PNY’s UK and Nordic sales director Stefanie Summerfield.
