Mobile PC ownership rises by 14 per cent

Australians prefer laptops

Australian PC owners appear to be embracing wireless technology, with laptop ownership jumping from 49 per cent to 63 per cent over the last year.

Research from Nielsen Online has also found that while wireless LAN ownership has increased by over 20 points to 53 per cent, desktop has declined by ten points to 82 per cent.

“As Australian internet users become increasingly less wired in the ways they access the internet, a greater focus is being placed on laptop-style computers rather than fixed desktops,” said Tony Marlow, research director at Nielsen Online.

“Looking ahead, we expect this trend to continue in 2009 and beyond, particularly for digital free-to-air TV, laptop computers and wireless LAN.”
