Asus is planning to release a $200 netbook in the New Year according to company representatives, but the firm is remaining tight lipped around other details.
The new netbook would be the first from the vendor of the Eee PC to fall below the $200 (£130) mark since it first launched the 2G version in 2007.
According to previous comments by Asus executives, the device is unlikely to feature a screen as small as seven-inches, mainly because they believe it is too small to allow for adequate web surfing.
The device is set to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2009, but the firm is remaining coy as to whether it will announce it at CES, CeBIT or at an event hosted specially for the device.
