Ballmer quashes hopes for a renewed acquisition bid

Microsoft turns Yahoo down

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has ended speculation over a new bid to take over Yahoo, saying that the company is not interested.

He made the comments following Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang’s public statement that his company would be receptive to such a move, after unequivocally rejecting an offer of $47 billion ($33 per share) earlier this year.

“We made an offer, we made another offer and it was clear that Yahoo didn’t want to sell the business to us and we moved on,” said Ballmer at a business lunch in Sydney.

“We are not interested in going back and re-looking at an acquisition. I don’t know why they would be either, frankly. They turned us down at $33 a share.”
