Digital map finally finds the App Store

Google Earth hits iPhone store

The Google Earth application is now available for the iPhone.

After its original released for desktops in 2005 and a subsequent port to the BlackBerry smartphone, Google Earth has made its way to Apple’s iPhone App Store.

Although it was previously available as a pre-installed option, Google Earth can now be downloaded as a free app, which makes use of the iPhone’s GPS systems as well as it accelerometer to control the map and locate the user.

The iPhone version has the full functionality of the desktop version but also includes an intuitive ‘search near me’ function that allows the user to locate nearby businesses without having to navigate manually.

The app can be downloaded here.
