Retail Vision: First day of the European channel event kicks off in Rome

Doors open to Retail Vision

The first day of Retail Vision 2008 in Rome began with a presentation to attendees entitled ‘the people behind the products’ in the Tiziano Ballroom of the Rome Marriott Park Hotel.

Everything Channel, the company which bought event organiser Vision Events this February, began by laying out the ways in which it would be expanding the Retail Vision trade show format globally in the near future, including a number of brand new ventures in the Middle East.

Further aspects to future shows were hinted at, including a ‘virtual trade show’ which will allow users to view events from shows remotely over the internet.

The remainder of the presentation was made up of mini-demonstrations from a small number of exhibitors, beginning with AM Denmark, which was showcasing its PC and peripheral cleaning products.

Next up was Zoostorm with distribution partner CMS Computers, showing off its range of fashion focussed laptops, including the Logic series loaded with Intel Atom processors and fingerprint scanners, and the Intel Classmate PC – an extremely low cost rugged water proof notebook designed for children.

Vuzix gave a presentation of its see-through video eye wear designed to give a widescreen viewing experience when watching video on mobile devices. The company has developed a range of products using this technology for consumer (including a focus on gaming) and military markets.

One interesting aspect of the technology is the fact that apparently Disney and Pixar have pledged to release 3D versions of all their films going forward – which the Vuzix technology is already compatible with.

Finally, AVF group gave a run through of its wall and ceiling mounts for flat panel TVs, projectors and AV accessories.

The exhibition proper will not begin until later today, in the meantime the full list of exhibitors are:
