Government to urge ISPs to implement three-strike policy

Users face ban for illegal downloads

Consumers who illegal download games will be cut off from the internet under new Government proposals.

Internet Service Providers will be required to adopt a three-strike system. An email warning will be sent the first time a user illegally download copyrighted media files, whilst the second infringement will result in a suspension.

For a third offence, the ISP will terminate the user’s contract.

Broadband companies who fail to enforce the regime will be prosecuted.
