Multimillion-pound revamp in pipeline to compete with Tesco.com and Tesco Direct

ASDA to relaunch website

The second largest supermarket chain in the UK, Asda has revealed that it is to launch a multimillion-pound revamp of its website as part of its plans to deliver the ‘ultimate online retail experience’ to its customers.

According to BrandRepublic, the Wal-Mart owned company has short-listed several firms in anticipation of the redesign.

Sources speaking to the website have suggested that the key driver behind Asda’s decision to revamp its website – which saw a rise in traffic of 85 per cent to three million users last year according to Nielsen/NetRatings – is to compete against fierce rival Tesco.

Tesco, which recently announced sales from its two online sites –Tesco.com and Tesco Direct – had reached £190 million over Christmas, is expected to find its offerings under increased competition in the coming months.

The new website is expected to have much more of a focus on non-food.
