Announces move into 'discrete' graphics

IDF San Franciso: Otellini lets slip graphically

Intel’s CEO, Paul Otellini, has confirmed the company’s intentions to return to the graphics area.

During his keynote speech, he repeated – albeit in very minor detail – the company’s plans for its upcoming Larrabee chip: its response to AMD’s Fusion chipset.

However, he let slip that the processor would" move us into discrete graphic," – something that saw the assembled journalists get very excited. Pushed further, he shied away from using the ‘discrete’ word, instead opting to respond by saying: "I said that among the applications for Larrabee one of them is high-end graphics."

It’s also likely that Intel’s recent purchase of Havok may have something to do with Larrabee.
