GfK also reports smart device sales leading to growth in powerline and range extenders markets

TP-LINK urges retail to take advantage of networking market

Growing consumer electronics sales have lead to increasing opportunities in networking, says vendor TP-LINK.

It’s outlined this chance to grab margin in a new white paper, written in conjunction with PCR, and free to download for PCR readers. You can find it at www.pcr- online.biz/reports.

In a nutshell, it states that with the increase of internet-enabled products in homes today, there’s no better time to sell reliable networking devices such as powerline adapters and range extenders. These products can offer an improved performance on standard ISP-provided routers, and are a more flexible solution, too.

Research firm GfK backs up the premise with its own data. Dominic Ashford, account manager, IT Panel, GfK, commented: “The sales volume of networking products in GfK’s tracked retail channels grew by four per cent comparing the last 12 months (until April) with the previous 12 months.

“Within this market, powerline devices and wireless repeaters saw some of the strongest growth, with the former segment growing by 60 per cent and the latter 186 per cent. This reflects the higher amounts of data being used across both wired and wireless networks by consumers. The proliferation of devices such as smart TVs, media gateways and most significantly smartphones and tablets have contributed to this growth.”

The white paper goes on to stress the importance of increasing the value of customers’ shopping baskets. High Streets are suffering (The Centre for Retail Research’s report Retail Futures 2018 says store numbers will fall by 22 per cent by 2018) and adding profit to existing transactions can make a huge difference to a shop’s success. TP-LINK believes that retailers can improve margins by adding networking products onto sales.
