Google’s Henrique de Castro will join Yahoo in 2013

Marissa Mayer hires former Google colleague as Yahoo COO

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has announced that Henrique de Castro will join the company as chief operating officer.

The current vice president of Google is said to of been lured to Yahoo with a hefty pay package which includes a $600,000 base salary plus a possible bonus of nearly twice as much as that. De Castro will also receive $36 million in stock.

"Henrique is an incredibly accomplished and rigorous business leader, and I’m personally excited to have him join Yahoo!’s strong leadership team," Mayer said in a statement.

"This is a pivotal point in Yahoo!’s history, and I believe strongly in the opportunity ahead," he said in a statement. "I can’t wait to join Marissa and the team and get started."

The news came on Mayer’s first full day back in the Yahoo office after giving birth to her son.

De Castro has been with Google since 2006, he will join Yahoo on January 22nd 2013.
