LG has unveiled its new detachable OLED display panel, which can stick to walls with a magnetic mat.
The wallpaper OLED panel sports a thin design at 0.97mm thick, is 55-inches wide and weighs 1.9kg.
The panel is currently a prototype at the moment and was shown off during a media event in Korea this week.
According to Yonhap News, Yeo Sang-deog, head of the display OLED division at LG, said at a press conference: ”We should be able to supply a satisfactory volume to our clients from July or August, which means we’re hoping to buckle down production as well as promotion from the third quarter.”
Due to the thin design of the panel, it emits light based on its electric current – without a backlight unit – helping to make the display much lighter compared to LCD displays.
Sang-deog also revealed plans to increase LG’s offering of OLED displays in the future.
“It has taken a year and half for us to raise the yield to this level (for OLEDs), while it’d taken nearly 10 years to achieve the yield for LCDs," added Sang-deog.
The firm also has plans to sell 600,000 OLED displays in 2015, increasing to 1.5 million in 2016.
This news comes after LG partnered with distributor Exertis, who will exclusively distribute LG’s new G4 smartphone. The G4 features A Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, a F1.8 aperture lens and leather backing.
