Gates would provide weekly input after five years of no daily involvement at the company

Bill Gates may move into product development at Microsoft

Bill Gates may move into product development at Microsoft, providing weekly input into the firm for the first time in five years.

As the firm Gates co-founded prepares to replace CEO Steve Ballmer, it has been suggested that Gates himself may be set for a resignation from his position as board chairman.

Speaking to “people with knowledge of the matter”, Bloomberg reported that “Gates would remain a director and be involved in product development, focusing less on administration.”

Additional claims noted that: “He’s weighing going to work at Microsoft at least one day a week.”

Gates has previously been involved in the development of the Windows operating system, Office suite of programmes and Microsoft’s original attempts to launch smartphone and tablet devices.

He stepped down as CEO in 2000 and in 2008 stopped his daily involvement in the company to concentrate on his work with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
