DayZ creator wants to see the game become a standalone title

ArmA II mod DayZ creeps closer to one million unique players

As DayZ looks set to exceed to the one million user mark today, creator Dean Hall reveals a possible standalone title.

Having topped the Steam charts for the past few weeks, only being knocked off this weekend by Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC pack, ArmA II has spawned a mod that has taken the gaming world by storm.

DayZ is set in Chernarus, a 225 km2 open world post-soviet state that has been hit by a new and presently unknown infection which has wiped out most of the world’s population.

Currently at 997,928 unique players, DayZ is incredibly close to the 1m mark, and with this comes news that creator Dean Hall would love it to become a standalone game.

“I want to see it become a standalone game, following the Minecraft model of a low price point, but that will only work if we say that everyone is going to pay,” Hall said. “In order for people to not feel ripped off we need to have a load of new content; so, things like base-building, tidying and cleaning up animations and add rag-doll physics as the like,” Hall told VG247 in a recent interview.

As well as unique users, the DayZ official website keeps a list of stats about the game, which includes total time played from all users, amounting to a whopping 1210 years three months and five days.
