Apple is reportedly readying a 128GB edition of its latest iPad

128GB iPad in the works?

Apple is reportedly preparing a 128GB edition of its latest fourth generation iPad.

Tech site 9to5Mac has quoted an anonymous source at a US retailer, who has stated that the rumoured model, known as "premium SKU" and "Ultimate" will be offered alongside the range of iPad models currently available.

At present, the largest capacity iPad available offers 64GB of storage space, but as users increasingly store more of their favourite media on the devices, the firm has identified the need for a higher capacity device.

The rumours have been reinforced by fellow tech site iDownloadBlog, which found code in the latest iOS 6.1 beta 5 that references compatibility with 128GB iOS devices.

It is believed that the new device will not offer any other significant upgrades on the current iPad range, other than the storage capacity increase.

While Apple has yet to comment on the speculation, the availability of a higher capacity iPad would certainly seem to be an avenue that Apple would be keen to pursue.
