Amazon is rumoured to be preparing a high-resolution Kindle Paperwhite for release in Q2 next year.
TechCrunch claims to have seen a prototype of the new device, codenamed ‘Ice Wine’, which features a 300ppi (pixels per inch) screen instead of the current Paperwhite’s 212ppi display.
The display itself is also said to now be flush with the edges of the new Paperwhite’s body, instead of recessed, and is made out of “very matte glass of some sort, not plastic”. The whole device is also expected to be lighter.
The new display will apparently showcase improved typography, with a custom-made font to make reading easier. Readbility will also be seemingly boosted by an ambient light sensor, which will adjust the screen’s brightness automatically depending on external light.
The edges of the Paperwhite will also now act as “squeezable” buttons, with integrated haptic feedback. The rear of the tablet will follow the design of the recently released Kindle Fire HDX, with angled edges and a power button.
