Dixons says it’s keeping close tabs on Valve’s new Steam Machines to bring the devices to the High Street.
Valve lifted the lid on 14 Steam Machines at CES 2014, which will range in price from $499 to $6,000 and launch later this year, and Dixons is excited by them.
"We are watching with great anticipation for further information about the operating system and hardware as it trickles out and we have our own ideas of how it could impact our PC gaming business," Simon Urquhart, category manager of PC gaming, components and upgrades, told MCV.
"The team here are keen gamers and as excited as everyone – when they arrive, we want to have the right offering."
Dixons’ Currys and PC World brands have also become the first UK retailers to stock Steam Wallet cards in-store. Consumers can buy gift cards in £10, £20 and £50 varieties. These allow PC gamers to top up their account on digital games download service Steam.
Dixons said it plans to use the physical Steam Wallet cards in special offers and bundles with PC hardware.
Retailer GAME also sells Steam Wallet credit, but does not yet stock the physical gift cards.
