‘Surface Laptop’ images leaked hours before Microsoft event

Images of Microsoft’s much anticipated ‘Surface Laptop’ have appeared after being leaked online. The pictures surfaced (excuse the pun) on Twitter just hours before the technology company was set to hold a big press event in New York City. The tech giant’s answer to the popular Google Chromebooks, the Surface Laptop is expected to be the main focus on the Microsoft event taking place later today.

Released by Twitter user WalkingCat, the images appear to show a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with 1080p display and sit at 1.25kg with a 14.47mm thickness. From the image released on twitter, the laptop can be seen to offer a USB port and mini DisplayPort. It also appears that the Surface Laptop will use the same ‘flocked Alcantara’ material that is currently used on Surface keyboard covers. It will also reportedly run on a slimmed-down version of Windows, reportedly called Windows 10 S. Putting two and two together, it would appear that the Windows 10 S is the official name for Microsoft’s rumoured Windows 10 Cloud OS that is set to compete with Google’s Chrome OS.

In the series of tweets, it appears that the Surface laptop will be made available in platinum, cobalt blue, graphite gold and burgundy. More information about the Surface Laptop is expected to be unveiled later today at the Microsoft event. A release date of June 18 is being mooted, although that will no doubt be confirmed or denied later today.

Last week, Microsoft reported a strong quarter, with profits up 28%, due to sales in cloud computing products such as its Azure. The firm was also boosted from a rise in financials at LinkedIn, which is bought for $26 billion last June.
